COLLAVANT N2

Undenatured collagen type II

Obtained from chicken cartilage

Collavant®n2 is undenatured type II collagen, also known as native or non-hydrolyzed collagen, as it does not undergo a hydrolysis process in its structure. It is obtained from chicken sternum cartilage using a patented process specially developed to maintain the structural characteristics of the type II collagen triple helix by Bioibérica, a Spanish company and market leader in active ingredients for joints.

Hydrolyzed collagen is made up of peptides, i.e. small fragments of this protein, which are easily absorbed due to their low molecular weight. Undenatured collagen, on the other hand, is the whole collagen molecule. As it has a high molecular weight, it is not absorbed and acts through interaction with the intestinal Peyer's patch, a process that involves modulating the immune system and its activity against type II collagen present in the joints, helping to maintain joint function.

Collagen and joints

Our bodies are made up of micronutrients, such as vitamins and minerals, and macronutrients, such as carbohydrates, fats and proteins.

Collagen is a protein found in abundance in all tissues in our body, such as joints and bones. It plays a fundamental role in the structure of the musculoskeletal system, which is responsible for the support, mobility and flexibility of joints, tendons, bones and ligaments. Thus, joint collagen helps to prevent wear and tear on bone ends, which can be caused by impact, as seen in some athletes, or due to the natural process of senescence.

With physiological ageing (senescence), endogenous collagen synthesis gradually decreases, leading to musculoskeletal instability and thus to joint wear and injury, which in turn can generate inflammation and pain. This impacts on quality of life by interfering with mobility and flexibility, thus compromising the individual's physical independence.

There are various strategies that can be used to prevent and recover from joint wear and mobility, such as eating foods rich in collagen and micronutrients such as vitamins and minerals, which help to stimulate and maintain endogenous collagen production.
