A source of tributyrin, a triglyceride composed of three butyrate molecules esterified to glycerol, produced using proprietary technology that ensures a purified molecule free of the characteristic odor of butyrate.
It is microencapsulated and remains in powder form, allowing it to be formulated in combination with other active ingredients.
Tributyrin
Intestinal homeostasis and health depend on the balance between probiotics, the supply of prebiotics (fiber), and postbiotics (the products of probiotic fermentation).
The recommended daily intake of 25 to 30 grams of fiber is rarely achieved through diet alone. Therefore, it is beneficial to combine fiber-rich foods (such as dark leafy greens and whole grains) with purified fiber, promoting gut modulation through the production of short-chain fatty acids, such as propionate, acetate, and butyrate.
Butyrate, in particular, acts as an energy source for intestinal cells, in addition to performing other functions in the body. However, the endogenous production of butyrate may not be efficient, as it depends on various factors, such as the amount of dietary fiber consumed, gut health, and microbiota diversity. Furthermore, administering butyrate in isolation is not practical due to its strong odor, short shelf life, instability, and the occurrence of adverse effects, such as headaches and nausea.
For this reason, tributyrin is an attractive alternative, as it releases three molecules of butyrate after metabolism, making it an accessible and efficient source of this postbiotic, without causing these side effects.
