PHYTOSPHINGOSINE® (EVONIK)

A reduction in skin roughness.

Anti-acne, anti-inflammatory, and moisturizing

It is a complex lipid belonging to the group of sphingoid bases, which are natural components of the stratum corneum. Obtained through yeast fermentation (primarily Pichia ciferrii), it acts as an anti-acne, anti-inflammatory, and moisturizing agent, combining an antimicrobial effect against Propionibacterium acnes with improvements in the skin barrier and hydration.

Sphingoid base—the predominant complex lipid in the skin

Saponification index: 70–90%

Acne involves four main factors: comedone formation, sebum production, colonization by P. acnes, and inflammation. PHYTOSPHINGOSINE® acts strategically within this context by exerting direct antimicrobial activity against P. acnes and intense anti-inflammatory activity, reducing papules and pustules and helping to control the emergence of new inflammatory lesions.

Thanks to its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory profile, PHYTOSPHINGOSINE® can also be used to address other skin conditions, such as atopic eczema, diaper rash, dark circles under the eyes, underarm odor, infected wounds, and athlete’s foot—always within the cosmetic/dermocosmetic context. These possibilities expand the active ingredient’s use in product lines for sensitive skin, delicate areas, and specific facial and body care.
