WHITONYL® (SILAB)

A natural skin lightener derived from red algae

Three Aspects of Hyperpigmentation

It is a natural skin-lightening agent from Silab, derived from red algae (Palmaria palmata), developed to even out skin tone and reduce dark spots, particularly those caused by sun exposure. It acts on different stages of pigmentation, offering a more comprehensive approach than traditional depigmenting agents.

Composition

Palmaria palmata extract

oligosaccharides rich in xylose and galactose

Whitonyl® has been studied to address hyperpigmentation on three fronts:

• Reduction of melanin production:
It decreases tyrosinase enzyme activity by up to 27%, limiting the early stages of melanogenesis.
It reduces overall melanin synthesis by up to 52% to 2%, outperforming kojic acid under equivalent conditions.

• Blocking pigment transport:
It reduces the expression of Rab27a—a protein involved in melanosome transport—by up to approximately 31%, limiting the pigment’s reach to the outermost layers of the skin.

• Control of photo-induced pigmentation (UVB):
In keratinocytes irradiated with UVB, it reduces the UV-induced increase in the stem cell factor (SCF)—an important mediator of sun-triggered pigmentation—by 81%.
